Memorial class at Stronger Fitness and Martial Arts in Wimbledon

Memorial Class at Stronger Fitness and Martial Arts in Wimbledon, by Tom Goulder

On Wednesday, 29th July 2026, members of Stronger Fitness and Martial Arts gathered to remember our former head coach, Oli Geddes, who tragically passed away from bowel cancer one year ago.

After a difficult year for everyone who knew and loved Oli, the evening was a poignant opportunity to come together and celebrate his life, teaching, and enduring legacy through the sport he loved, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The memorial class began with Coach Marcos reflecting on Oli’s immense contribution to the gym and the lasting impact he had on so many. Members were then invited to share their own memories, speaking about Oli’s technical knowledge, patient coaching, generosity, and ability to make everyone feel seen and valued. It was a powerful reminder of the impact he had both within our gym and across the wider jiu-jitsu community.

We held a minute’s silence in Oli’s honour, followed by a round of applause in gratitude for everything he gave us. We then made time for rounds of sparring, a fitting way to remember someone whose passion for jiu-jitsu touched so many lives.

The evening also served as a reminder of the importance of the foundation established in Oli’s name. By raising awareness and supporting its mission, we can help ensure his legacy continues to make a meaningful difference to others.

To everyone who came to train, share a memory, or show their support, thank you.

And to Oli, thank you for everything you built here.
